Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Big Tree Camp
Start at Londorossi Gate (2,100 m) and trek through lush rainforest to Big Tree Camp (2,700 m). This is a gentle introduction to the mountain with beautiful vegetation.
Day 2: Big Tree Camp to Shira 1 Camp
Cross the rainforest and climb onto the Shira Plateau, reaching Shira 1 Camp (3,500 m). The landscape opens to wide moorland and rocky terrain.
Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
A shorter day hiking across the Shira Plateau to Shira 2 Camp (3,850 m), allowing time to rest and acclimatize.
Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp (via Lava Tower)
Ascend to Lava Tower (4,630 m) for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp (3,960 m). This “climb high, sleep low” day helps your body adjust to altitude.
Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Climb the Barranco Wall and then continue across valleys to Karanga Camp (4,035 m). The trek is scenic and moderately challenging.
Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Trek to Barafu Camp (4,640 m), the base for your summit attempt. The terrain is rocky and exposed with spectacular views.
Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Begin the summit climb around midnight, reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) by sunrise. After celebrating, descend to Mweka Camp (3,100 m).
Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
Final descent through rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640 m), where you exit the park and receive your summit certificate.
